Press Release

The Wisconsin Division for Early Childhood (WDEC) and the Wisconsin Early Childhood Association (WECA) has named Kelly Jankowski one of two Student Teachers of the Year.

Kelly student taught at East Elementary in Jefferson Wisconsin in the first grade from January, 2009 through June, 09,.  Her cooperating teacher stated that she has had a number of student teachers in the past and Kelly is by far the most the most proficient.  She always greeted the children in the morning and in the afternoon and could often be found talking with parents. Kelly consistently demonstrated a calm demeanor and welcomed each parent and child with a smile. Kelly received glowing nominations from several individuals.  Kelly preformed like a veteran master teacher.  She created many wonderful lessons and units during her semester; she was always looking for different ways to challenge the students. If they were struggling ,she spent extra time with them.  Kelly was an active participant in all of the school meeting and activities.  She also attended extra in-service meetings.  She was extremely well liked by all staff. Kelly, a University of Whitewater graduate, was supervised by Paul M. Olson.

The awards ceremony was held during the 55nd Annual Wisconsin Early Childhood Education & Care Conference, “Children Connect Us”, October 22-24, 2009 at the Kalahari in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.
