Press ReleaseThe Wisconsin Division for Early Childhood (WDEC) and the Wisconsin Early Childhood Association (WECA) has named Dana (Harings) Friederichs one of two Student Teachers of the Year.
Dana student taught at Cumberland School district’s 4 year old pre-school program an inclusive hands-on learning environment from August through January, 2008,. Her cooperating teacher stated that she has had a number of student teachers in the past and Dana is one of the best. Dana created an atmosphere of respect and rapport, not only with students, but with other teaching staff and parents. She created engaging and fun activities and matched her teaching to the interests and abilities of each child. She is calm and positive. Dana establishes a comfortable respectful environment, which encouraged learning. She adapted her instruction to include all children with varying ability levels. She conducted many assessments and developmental testing and participated in IEP’s. Dana, a student at U.W. Stout was supervised by Dr. Ruth Nyland.
The awards ceremony was held during the 55nd Annual Wisconsin Early Childhood Education & Care Conference, “Children Connect Us”, October 22-24, 2009 at the Kalahari in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.
Other award recipients at the conference include Paula Clay, Early Childhood Teacher of the Year; Jean Gagner, Early Childhood Teacher of the Year; Kelly Jankowski Student Teacher of the Year, Jane Lind, Outstanding Partner in Early Education and Care, Eau Claire Family Literacy and The Breakfast Club, Collaborative Team of the Year.
The awards were presented by Mary Jo Hite, WDEC President; Julia Townsend, WECA President; and Ruth Nyland, WDEC President-Elect; at the Conference Professional Development Luncheon.
Both WDEC and WECA are state chapters of national professional organizations devoted to insuring quality care and education for young children and their families.
